This will be my space to share thoughts on the business of football: what is happening across the industry, the challenges facing clubs and where I believe opportunities for sustainable growth exist.
Some articles will be strategic. Some will respond to developments within English, European or global football. Others will be more reflective, drawing on my own experiences and the conversations emerging through Football Growth.
The tone will vary with the subject. Some pieces will challenge established thinking, while others will be more conversational or reflective.
I’ll share my views honestly, but the aim is always to encourage constructive discussion and contribute something useful to the way football clubs operate and grow.
My perspective
My professional background spans more than 20 years across media, marketing, commercial strategy and revenue growth—initially within the wider entertainment industry and, more recently, inside professional football.
Football has also been a lifelong personal passion.
That combination has allowed me to experience the game from different perspectives and to understand both its emotional importance and its commercial realities.
Those ideas are not in opposition.
Clubs must respect what football means to their supporters while also developing the sustainable revenue required to compete, improve and grow.
That is the perspective I will bring to Founder Notes.
“Football has been the constant throughout my life; my career has simply given me the opportunity to experience it from almost every perspective.”

Why Football Growth?
During my career, I have worked across many of the areas that influence whether a football club succeeds away from the pitch, including media, marketing, commercial partnerships, ticketing, retail and supporter growth.
The longer I spent inside football, the clearer it became that these activities could not be addressed independently.
A ticketing problem is rarely just a ticketing problem.
A commercial challenge can be influenced by media, hospitality, operations and access to the football department.
A supporter-engagement issue may have its roots in technology, communication, pricing or the matchday experience.
Clubs often attempt to solve the most visible symptom within one department without examining the wider conditions that created it.
My most recent club role, as a Chief Revenue Officer, widened that perspective. It brought me closer to senior leadership, ownership groups and investors, and created opportunities to consider not only the next piece of revenue but the longer-term direction and value of a football club.
How do you build sustainable income?
How do you create systems that make growth repeatable?
How does the strength of the supporter base influence the value of the organisation?
How can a club improve without becoming permanently dependent on owner funding?
Those were the conversations in which I increasingly wanted to be involved.
Football Growth is the result of that progression.
It gives me the opportunity to work with clubs in an advisory capacity: identifying barriers to growth, challenging inherited assumptions and helping leadership teams turn experience and insight into practical change.
It is not about arriving with a presentation and telling experienced people that everything they have done is wrong.
It is about combining an independent perspective with the knowledge already inside the club—and helping the organisation make better use of both.
A conversation across the industry
Founder Notes is intended for anyone interested in how football clubs operate.
That could be somebody starting their career in the industry, a departmental leader trying to influence change, a chief executive considering the direction of a club or an investor assessing an opportunity.
Not every article will be equally relevant to every reader.
But I hope the series will offer useful ideas, challenge a few assumptions and encourage people at every level to consider the part they play in the wider success of their club.
I will not always be right, and I do not expect everybody to agree with me.
In fact, some of the most valuable conversations may begin with disagreement.
The only requirement is that the discussion remains constructive and focused on helping the industry move forward.
What comes next
Founder Notes will sit alongside the wider Football Growth insights, exploring issues across leadership, media, marketing, commercial strategy and transformation.
There is more to come too.
The plan is to launch a Football Growth podcast focused on revenue growth within the game. It will feature conversations with people working across professional football, the EFL, non-league and grassroots—sharing the experiences of those actively dealing with the opportunities and challenges facing clubs.
That remains a coming soon project for now. More information will follow when the time is right.
For the moment, Founder Notes is where the conversation begins.
Football Growth is an opportunity to use everything I have experienced to help clubs build stronger and more sustainable futures.
